Daniel Patrick Duffy for Circuit Court Judge
Appointed to the bench by order of the Illinois Supreme Court in April 2014 to fill the county-wide vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susan Ruscitti Grussel, Daniel Patrick Duffy is presently assigned to the First Municipal District, Non-Jury Civil Section.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Duffy practiced law for nearly twenty years – in Chicago, as well as in the collar counties. Duffy, a litigator, appeared in both state and federal court frequently and was engaged in a diverse general litigation practice, including civil rights defense, commercial litigation and appellate work. In addition, from 2004 until 2013, Duffy served by appointment of the Illinois Supreme Court on the nine-member Review Board of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, hearing appeals of disciplinary hearings as part of a three-member panel.
During his nine years on the ARDC Review Board, Duffy authored or assisted in authoring more than 80 opinions concerning the practice of law in Illinois. Several of those decisions became the subject of Illinois Supreme Court opinions, including In re Karavidas, 2013 IL 115767, which has been characterized by attorneys who practice in the professional responsibility field as one of the most significant cases decided by the Supreme Court in the forty-year history of the ARDC.
Judge Duffy resides in Chicago with his wife and two children, 7 and 9.
