Rosa Maria Silva
Rosa has been an Assistant Cook County Public Defender for over a decade. She is currently assigned to the Murder Task Division at 26th and California. She has tried over 100 bench trials and over 60 felony jury trials. She is a member of AFSCME Local 3315 union, where she currently serves as a steward.
Rosa was peer nominated and featured in the yearly publication: "Top 40 under 40 Illinois Attorneys to watch" published by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. She recently received the Vanguard Award, for her contributions that have made the law and the legal profession more accessible to and reflective of the community at large. In 2015, she received an award from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Sociology Department, for Service to the City of Chicago. Rosa's career and achievements were also featured in UIC's Alumni Magazine cover article, "For the Defense, Public Defender Rosa Silva".
Rosa served as the president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois in the 2010-2011, she is the current Recording Secretary of the Women's Bar Foundation which in part provides scholarships to women law students and previously served as the co-chair for the Diversity Committee for the Women's Bar Association of Illinois.
Rosa attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology. She went on to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she received her Master's degree in Sociology. She attended Chicago-Kent College of Law where she received her Jurist Doctorate degree.
Rosa has been involved in community service. Most recently at Maria Saucedo as a volunteer through Lawyers in the Classroom, teaching elementary school students about Constitutional Law. She also was part of the 26th Street Readers, which tutored elementary school students at Kannon Elementary in the Lawndale neighborhood. Rosa has served on various panels and has spoke at various schools sharing her educational and career experience with students of all ages. She has also lectured to community organizations about the justice system.
Rosa has been found to be Qualified or Recommended by All Bar Associations.
