Judge James T. Derico, Jr.

Judge James T. Derico, Jr. has practiced law in the State of Illinois since 1985. Judge Derico initially worked as an Associate Attorney at Gardner, Carton & Douglas (now Drinker, Biddle & Reath). Mr. Derico was also a Corporate Attorney for Borg-Warner Corporation and an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, Illinois.

In 1992, Judge Derico founded Derico & Associates, P.C. a small law firm that specializes in representing business clients and in representing individual in a wide variety of legal matters.

In December 2018, the Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge Derico to the Circuit Court of Cook County.


Judge Derico is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.


Judge Derico is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he served as Co-Chair of the Legal Clinic Ministry, which provides free legal counsel and representation to low income and indigent individuals. Judge Derico has also been an active member of the Church’s mentoring ministry that works with young African-American males.
